Vietnam
There was a land so far away
It's Vietnam, as known today.
The French had left, in full retreat
They fought a war with full defeat.
The call came out to American men
To fight a war we would not win.
Our men did fight and well they did
They killed some Cong, but the rest had hid.
Our Congress said:
Let them shoot first and shoot at will
Then you shoot back, if you're not killed.
The Vietcong without full dress
Cannot be killed until they're dressed.
They came by day, they came by night
Through tunnels deep, they came to fight.
The Air Force came to Hanoi, too
With loads of bombs to kill a few.
Our Congress said: You're not to fly
But it's OK for our boys to die.
The protest raged at home anew
Here are some, I'll name a few.
There's McGovern, Shriber, and Clinton who,
With Hanoi Hanna and Fonda, too.
The jungle is deep, the grass is tall
It's hard to find the Cong at all.
The Pungee sticks are very sharp
They pierce the body and stop the heart.
The booby traps many, took their toll
Of the young and old and very bold.
Our media said our boys so dear
Were murdering dogs and should be here.
They accused our boys of everything wrong
And made them fight a war too long.
That war went on for years and years
They lived and died with bitter tears.
There's one more charge and it's in order
About the yellow dogs that crossed the border.
They fought that war, both black and white
Every day and every night.
They gave their lives so we may be
A nation proud, a nation free.
Thank you men, we love you dear
America sleeps now, without fear.
God bless you all, the victory is won
This poem is finished, your story is done.
